A multi-role portal designed for use with ProMonitor and ProSolution

Key Points

  • ProPortal is a multi-role portal designed for use with ProMonitor and ProSolution.  ProPortal requires access to at least one of the ProMonitor or ProSolution systems.  It is able to display student ILP pages from ProMonitor and student information pages from ProSolution together in one easy-to-use web site.
  • There are three parts to the ProPortal system – the Administration Utility, the Database and the Web Site.  Installing, configuring and managing these parts of the system are covered in detail in the ProPortal Installation / Administration Guides.

About Portal

  • A day-to-day user of ProPortal will use a web browser to access the system.  Login is via Windows Authentication or Username and Password.  If the system cannot authenticate a user, it will request a username and password.
  • Administrators of ProPortal will use a windows-based application to manage user accounts, permissions and system configuration.
  • ProPortal has been developed to work with ProMonitor and/or ProSolution.
  • It is designed to support the requirements of different types of users – for example Students, Employers, Parents, Head Teachers, etc. to view (and edit as appropriate) information about an individual student.
  • Each user of ProPortal belongs to a Permission Group and each user may be related to one or more students.  The Permission Group a user belongs to dictates the pages of information available to the user.
  • Any number of Permission Groups may be created within ProPortal and the pages of information available to each Permission Group may be assigned as necessary.  When a user account is created, a Permission Group for the user must be selected.  Any number of students may be assigned to the user account.  Note that any user account belonging to the fixed Permission Group of “Student” may have only one student assigned.
What Can It Display?

  • If ProPortal is connected to ProMonitor, it will display the student ILP Pages.
  • If ProPortal is connected to ProSolution, it will display Student Information pages including the timetable, detailed attendance and exam entries.
What Information is Displayed?

  • When the ProPortal web site is opened, if the user is associated to more than one student, a selection list of students is displayed.
  • When a student name is clicked, a page containing information about the student is opened.  The menu options on the left side of the screen are the pages available to the Permission Group the user belongs to.  Note that information from different academic years is available by selecting from the drop-down list at the top right of the screen.
Who Will Use ProPortal?

  • ProPortal has designed to be flexible.
  • ProPortal requires only one of either ProMonitor or ProSolution to be available.  By allowing any Permission Group to be created, the need for dedicated Student Portals or Employer Portals or Parent Portals for example is removed.
  • Where both ProSolution and ProMonitor are available, a rich variety of information is available from both systems.
  • ProPortal is not designed to replace the existing main windows and web applications currently used by college staff.  ProPortal is designed to extend the use of ProSolution and ProMonitor to a wider range of users whose main requirement is to access information (apart from Students who will need to edit their ILP).
